Today my arrived. The first thing I did after opening up the box was install on it. This was a pretty straightforward experience thanks to the guys at the. I followed the instructions and didn’t have any problems at all. I’m hoping this will make a nice, little, cheap (I got my 250 GB model for $170), and quiet version control and defect tracking server (among other things – it’s running linux afterall). A couple of years ago I ditched my linux desktop machine in favor of an iMac G5. I wouldn’t ever dream of switching back since the Mac is a dream but it is nice to have a linux machine at home again.
README.md OpenLinkstation NEWS The DeviceTree (DTB) for Linkstation LS-WXL/LS-WSXL & LS-WVL/LS-VL already got merged into mainline Linux! Latest status from ML: Thanks Mario Lange, we'll soon support LS-QVL, too! With the development on d-i (Debian Installer), now scripts here seems obsolete, because we can install Debian directly.
There's no official release yet, so you need to use daily images. Find images for your Linkstation model here: Put those images into 1st partition of the HDD (/dev/sda1 or /dev/md0), and boot Linkstation, after a few minutes you can access to the d-i via SSH connection: ssh installer@ the password should be 'install'. If you want to use RAID-1 for 1st partition, you need to set up it as metadata 0.90, which cannot be done in UI. So you need another SSH session to log into shell, and wait the timing after d-i probing disks but before entering partman, type mdadm -create /dev/md0 -level=1 -raid-devices=2 -e 0 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 - or the following if you have only 1 HDD currently - mdadm -create /dev/md0 -level=1 -raid-devices=2 -e 0 /dev/sda1 missing For other part, just follow the instruction, you can natively install a clean Debian system. Purpose To get system updated on Linkstation series, it's better to replace the stock firmware with system seriously maintained, like Debian.
